Building the Future of Steel in Bengal: Amit Metaliks’ ₹4,000 Crore Integrated Steel Project in Purulia
The foundation stone laid on 17 August 2026 at Raghunathpur, Purulia, marks more than the beginning of a new manufacturing facility for Amit Metaliks. It marks the beginning of a larger vision—one where advanced manufacturing, responsible growth and employment creation come together to contribute to the industrial future of West Bengal.
With a proposed investment of ₹4,000 crore, our upcoming greenfield integrated steel manufacturing project represents one of the most significant milestones in Amit Metaliks’ growth journey. The project is designed to strengthen our manufacturing capabilities while contributing to the development of Purulia and the wider industrial ecosystem of the state.
From a Foundation Stone to a Long-Term Vision
The foundation stone ceremony, graced by the Hon’ble Chief Minister of West Bengal, Shri Suvendu Adhikari, represents an important step towards translating this vision into reality.
The upcoming facility at Raghunathpur is planned with an annual production capacity of **1.2 million tonnes (1.2 MTPA)** and is expected to commence commercial operations by 2029.
For Amit Metaliks, however, the scale of the project is not measured only by its production capacity or investment value. Its larger significance lies in the opportunity to build a modern manufacturing ecosystem that creates value across multiple dimensions—from steel production and infrastructure to employment, skills and ancillary industries.
An Integrated Approach to Steel Manufacturing
The planned facility is being developed as an integrated steel complex, bringing multiple stages of the manufacturing process together within one ecosystem.
The project will comprise:
- A pellet plant
- Direct Reduced Iron (DRI) facilitie
- Rolling mill
- SEAF unit
- Forging unit
- Brick manufacturing unit
- A 145 MW captive power plant
This integrated approach is intended to create greater efficiency across the production chain while enabling Amit Metaliks to build capabilities for the next phase of its growth.
The project also reflects our focus on adopting modern manufacturing technologies and developing infrastructure that is designed for long-term operational efficiency.
Creating Opportunities Beyond the Plant

Industrial development is ultimately about people.
One of the most important outcomes envisioned from the Purulia project is employment generation. The project is expected to create **more than 5,000 employment opportunities**, while also supporting indirect opportunities across logistics, services, construction, maintenance and other allied sectors.
For the region, this can create a wider economic multiplier effect.
A large integrated manufacturing project brings together a network of suppliers, contractors, transport operators, service providers and skilled professionals. Over time, this ecosystem can help strengthen local capabilities and create opportunities for businesses and communities around the industrial hub.
Our ambition is therefore not simply to build a steel plant, but to contribute to the emergence of a stronger industrial ecosystem in Purulia.
Sustainability as Part of the Design
As industrial capacity expands, responsible resource management becomes increasingly important.
Sustainability has therefore been incorporated into the project’s planned infrastructure and processes. The facility will explore measures including waste heat recovery-based power generation, zero liquid discharge, water recycling, gas cleaning systems and slag reutilisation.
These initiatives reflect a broader principle that guides our approach to manufacturing: growth and responsibility must move together.
By focusing on resource efficiency, recycling and cleaner production practices, Amit Metaliks aims to build infrastructure that is not only productive today but also better prepared for the needs of tomorrow.
Strengthening Bengal’s Manufacturing Ecosystem
West Bengal has a long-standing industrial heritage, and projects of this scale can play an important role in strengthening the state’s manufacturing capabilities.
The Purulia project is aligned with Amit Metaliks’ long-term commitment to expanding its presence in steel and infrastructure while contributing to the state’s industrial development.
For Purulia, the project represents an opportunity to deepen industrial activity and create new linkages between manufacturing, employment and supporting industries. For Amit Metaliks, it represents the next step in our evolution as a growing integrated steel company.
The Road Ahead
The foundation stone is only the beginning.
The journey ahead will involve planning, engineering, construction, technology implementation and, ultimately, the transition into commercial operations. Amit Metaliks is targeting completion within approximately 1,000 days while also exploring opportunities to accelerate the timeline further.
As we move forward, our focus will remain firmly on three priorities:
Building at scale.
Building responsibly.
Building for the future.
The ₹4,000 crore Raghunathpur project is therefore more than an expansion of manufacturing capacity. It is a statement of intent—a commitment to innovation, industrial development, employment generation and responsible growth.
At Amit Metaliks, we believe the future of manufacturing will be shaped by organisations that are willing to think beyond the next production cycle and invest in the ecosystems around them.
With the foundation now laid, we look forward to building that future—one tonne of steel, one opportunity and one milestone at a time.
Amit Metaliks — Building Steel. Building Opportunities. Building Bengal.
